A former athletic director for a Dauphin County, Pa., school district was charged Wednesday after being accused of stealing money from sporting event ticket sales.
As reported by ABC affiliate WHTM in Harrisburg, charging documents show that 34-year-old Andrew Kuhn of Red Lion allegedly admitted to taking $15,842 that he was supposed to deposit into the Susquehanna Township School District bank account.
Part of Kuhn’s role as district athletic director from Sept. 23, 2023, to Oct. 18, 2024, was to collect, count and deposit cash from sporting events into the school’s bank account.
After an audit, police were contacted Nov. 25 by district officials. Police said the audit showed the money the district collected from 2024 sporting events was atypically low.
The complaint details that district officials saw that zero deposits were made after the events when they checked the account.
Police said Kuhn allegedly admitted to the theft when they spoke with him. He now faces a felony charge of theft by unlawful taking.
He was placed on unsecured bail set at $15,000. A preliminary hearing that is scheduled for June 26.
“The Susquehanna Township School District has become aware of criminal charges filed against a former District employee regarding the alleged misuse or misappropriation of funds,” district officials said in a statement, as reported by WHTM. “The District has fully cooperated with the Susquehanna Township Police Department who have provided outstanding support to the District in its attempt to resolve this matter and potentially recover any funds. As this is a matter involving a former employee that is in the hands of the District Attorney, the District has no additional comment. The District is working with its auditors to ensure that its internal controls are sufficient to deter any actions like those alleged in the matter.”
