A Vermont day camp was recently hit with a significant outbreak of COVID-19 among young people attending the summer program.
The Vermont Department of Health said last week that the camp saw 13 confirmed cases at the Waterbury Parks and Recreation day camp. Most of the kids were under 12 years old and no severe cases were reported.
The Town of Waterbury Parks and Recreation said they are in constant contact with the health department since the cases were first reported.
"Cases are on the rise. It was bound to hit our area at some point. Unfortunately, we have to be the organization that gets it first. We weren't doing anything negligent or we didn't ignore all these cases. We operated in a super-timely fashion when we got word of these cases,” Nick Nadeau, Town of Waterbury Parks and Recreation director told the local NBC affiliate.
Next week is the last week of the six-week summer camp, but Nadeau said those kids affected are now done. Refunds will be offered and contact tracing is underway.
