The University of Tennessee finds themselves with neither a football coach nor an athletic director.

John Currie has been fired from the school after serving only eight months as AD.

The action comes after a turbulent week-long search for a new head football coach to replace Butch Jones, fired by Currie on Nov. 12.

College football insider Brett McMurphy told USA Today that Tennessee officials have been ambushing Currie’s search, saying, “They shoot themselves in the foot, cock the gun & shoot themselves in the other foot.”

The Vols have been repeatedly turned down by potential hires after fans and community leaders publicly protested Currie’s attempt to hire current Ohio State defensive coordinator Greg Schiano.

According to USA Today, Currie's contract, which runs through June 30, 2022, details a buyout that would come to $5.5 million. He will not receive the buyout if he is proven to have been fired with cause.
