A game of dodgeball in P.E. class got ugly earlier this month, and wound up getting a girls’ high school basketball coach in trouble with police.
Chuck Hall, the head coach at Bowie (Texas) High School, was placed on administrative leave on Feb. 4 after allegedly assaulting a student following a game of dodgeball. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that both Child Protective Services and local police are investigating.
A Feb. 5 police report alleges that Hall yelled at a 14-year-old student after the coach was hit in the head by a dodgeball. Things devolved from there, and both the coach and the student wound up on the floor of the gym with Hall on top of the student. A school security camera captured the incident on video.
“He was supervising [the dodgeball game] when he was hit in the head and his glasses broke,” Bowie police chief Guy Green told the Star-Telegram. “What happened next is under investigation.”
While police investigation continues, officials from both CPS and the school district refused to comment on the details of the incident, though school superintendent Steven Monkres told the Star-Telegram that Hall would remain on leave.
Hall expressed remorse for the incident, telling the Star-Telegram “I’m deeply regretful and sorrowful for the position that I have put my family, my friends, my girls basketball team, the school, and more than anyone else, the student and his parents [in].”
