Facility Friday: OSU's Covelli Center, NIU Performance Center and More

Ohio State University recently moved several of its athletics programs into the new Covelli Center, a 3,700-seat venue that will be home to the school’s wrestling, volleyball, gymnastics and fencing teams. Complete with locker rooms, offices, training and treatment space, the facility will also be an occasional venue for women’s basketball and local tournaments. — news.osu.edu

Morgan State University is in the midst of an upgrade to its W.A.C. Hughes Memorial Stadium. The $2.5 million renovation project will upgrade the playing surface on the football field, as well as install a new high-performance all-weather track surface. The project began on May 28, and is expected to be complete prior to the start of football camp in August. — news.morgan.edu

The University of Missouri announced that it had received a $2.5 million anonymous donation to tip off the fundraising effort for renovations to its basketball facilities. The school hopes to raise $5 million to renovate parts of Mizzou Arena, including both the men’s and women’s team locker rooms, lounge space, coaches offices, meeting rooms and training and weight room space. The project is expected to be complete prior to the 2020-21 basketball season. — MUTigers.com

Northern Illinois University this week dedicated its Northwestern Medicine Performance Center and Phi Sigma Kappa Alumni Association of NIU Nutrition Center. The facility features an upgraded weight room that will be utilized by each of the school’s 17 athletics programs, and also provide nutrition and mental health programming and support. — NIUHuskies.com
