The University of Arkansas is preparing to undertake a number of new facility projects, including a new baseball development center, a track high performance center and renovations to the Randal Tyson Track Center. The baseball facility will be approximately 45,000 square feet, providing an expanded locker room, a team room, a weight room, a training room, meeting rooms, nutrition space, player and pitcher development spaces and in-venue batting cages. The track high-performance center will construct a new 22,000 square foot space, combining the operations of the men’s and women’s programs into one efficient space. Boston College announced this week that Phase II of the Harrington Athletics Village would be named the Pete Frates Center in honor of the former baseball captain who was diagnosed with ALS at age 27. The space will provide 31,000 square feet for baseball and softball, with locker rooms, hitting tunnels, an indoor turf field, a strength and conditioning area and hospitality space. — BCEagles.com

Minnesota State University, Mankato broke ground on its $5.49 million seasonal Maverick All-Sports Dome this week. The 109,850-square-foot facility will be an air-inflated space, providing the school with an indoor facility from mid-October through mid-April, and will convert to an outdoor space through the spring and summer. When complete, the facility will serve the school’s athletics programs, as well as campus recreation, university academic classes, and clubs and organizations.
