The University of Alabama Birmingham revealed designs for Protective Stadium this week in a presentation to the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex board of directors. The 45,000-seat venue, designed by Populous, will be funded by the BJCC Authority, the City of Birmingham, Jefferson County, Protective Life Corporation and UAB. — UABSports.com

Fairfield University has unveiled plans to build a new Convocation Center, which will play host to the school’s basketball and volleyball programs, prep basketball, convocations, concerts and other gatherings. Designed by Centerbrook Architects and Planners, the 85,000-square-foot, 3,500-seat facility will replace Fairfield’s Alumni Hall. Construction is expected to begin in spring 2020, and take between 18 and 24 months for completion. — Press release
The University of Charleston (W.Va.) opened its Welch Athletic Complex Saturday. The new home to Golden Eagle baseball, lacrosse, and men’s and women’s soccer, the facility features a synthetic turf field, a concessions stand, bleacher seating, new locker rooms and a scoreboard. Auburn University received approval from its board of trustees to move forward with plans for a Football Performance Center. The move allows the school to develop the scale and scope of the project and to begin seeking an architect. Boston College officially dedicated its new Margot Connell Recreation Center this month. The 244,000-square-foot space, which opened to the BC community in the summer, features amenities such as rock climbing and bouldering walls, four hardwood courts, a multipurpose room, an aquatics center, futsal courts and a golf simulator. — BC.edu
