The University of Central Florida broke ground Saturday on McNamara Cove, the game-day hospitality venue that will feature two recreational volleyball courts, cabanas, a food and beverage pagoda, and perhaps most notably, a 600-foot lazy river. Appalachian State University approved an additional $5 million in funding to help build its North End Zone facility at Kidd Brewer Stadium. The boost moves the total budget for the project to $50 million. The North End Zone project will feature an 88,000-square-foot facility with amenities such as athletic training, hydrotherapy, locker rooms, nutrition areas and academic space, as well as coaches offices and about 1,000 premium seats. — Watauga Democrat
