All Miami University athletes are under quarantine after 27 tested positive for COVID-19.
WLWT News 5 in Cincinnati reported Monday that, according to university officials, many of the infected athletes had attended an off-campus event. Since the positives were found Monday, the Butler County General Health District has asked all athletes in Oxford, Ohio, as well as coaches and staff members in contact with them, to quarantine. The health district is also trying to identify everyone else the 27 positive athletes recently came in contact with.
"Miami University is fully supportive of and cooperating with the Butler County General Health District,” Miami president Gregory Crawford said. “We have worked with them throughout the pandemic to help safeguard the health of our students, faculty, staff and communities.”
The quarantines will have no immediate on-field impact, as the Mid-American Conference — of which Miami is a member — has postponed fall sports with the hopes of playing in the spring.
