Facility Friday: Illini Golf, High School Projects

The University of Illinois announced it had received a $5 million gift to help fund renovations of the newly acquired Atkins Golf Club. The gift will fund golf course and venue improvements, including work to lengthen the course, tighten fairways, upgrade bunkers and improve lakes, creeks and bridges. The clubhouse will feature a rebranded pro-shop, player lounge space and recruiting areas for both the men’s and women’s golf programs. — FightingIllini.com

LaGrange High School in Georgia held a ribbon cutting ceremony for its $15 million athletic facility. Amenities include a 2,000-seat gym, an indoor field facility for football and soccer and a practice room for both wrestling and cheerleading. — WRBL.com

Washington and Lee University is nearing completion on its 165,489-square-foot Richard L. Duchossois Athletic and Recreation Center. Once complete, the facility will offer an expanded fitness center, a wrestling room, regulation size racquetball and squash courts, a golf simulator, a putting green, modernized locker rooms and upgraded basketball courts. In addition, the facility will double existing space for athletic training. — WDBJ7.com

Mona Shores (Mich.) High School dedicated its new soccer facility this week. It, and an adjacent softball facility, were recently upgraded to the tune of $3.5 million as part of the first phase of a three phase bond proposal. — mlive.com
