Colby College in Maine recently opened its $200 million Harold Alfond Athletics and Recreation Center. The state-of-the-art, 350,000-square-foot facility features an Olympic-sized Myrtha pool, a regulation ice arena, three regulation courts for basketball and volleyball, a three-level fitness center, an indoor track and field competition space, a squash-center, a 42-foot climbing wall and more. Old Dominion University is debuting a new volleyball team this year, and this week unveiled a new volleyball center. The $3.5 million project renovated a former basketball facility at the Jim Jarrett Athletic Administration Building. With seating for 822 fans, upgrades include new locker rooms, coaches’ offices and a team room. ODU will open the facility with a home game against George Mason on Jan. 22. — Press Release

Augustana College in Rock Island, Ill., announced that it would name its new swimming and diving facility the Anne Greve Lund Natatorium for the alumna who helped lead the charge for women’s sports at the school as its first director for women’s athletics. The natatorium will be housed within the Peter J. Lindberg, M.D., Center for Health and Human Performance — an $18 million project. The facility will include a competition pool, viewing stands, team rooms, offices and locker rooms. It also will include a Swim Performance Lab featuring a SwimEx pool system for sports physical therapy, training and swimming stroke analysis. — athletics.augustana.edu

The University of Maine received a $90 million gift to upgrade its athletic facilities. The donation will be distributed over a 10-year period, and will help to construct and upgrade the university’s facilities, as well as enhance gender equity between programs. The gift, coupled with an additional $20 million in fundraising, will cap off $110 million investment in the school’s athletics facilities.
