Bowl season is already off to a tough start, as the first postseason college football game of the year reportedly had a team bow out on the week of the game.

According to 247sports, Southern Methodist University has removed itself from Saturday’s Tropical Smoothie Café Frisco Bowl due to COVID-19 issues. That leaves the game in question as the University of Texas at San Antonio (7-4) waits to see if SMU will be replaced for Saturday afternoon’s kickoff at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas.

The Mustangs finished the season with a 7-3 record, including 4-3 in the American Athletic Conference, after their last regular-season game against Houston was also canceled Dec. 5 due to coronavirus contact tracing.
