The Richmond City Council unanimously approved plans that officials believe represents a step toward a new ballpark and Athletics Village for Virginia Commonwealth University. Included in that parcel is The Diamond — an outdated 1985 ballpark that is set to be replaced and shared by VCU and the minor league Richmond Flying Squirrels — and land that would be designated for the proposed Athletics Village. The Athletics Village would reportedly include a tennis complex, a track, a soccer stadium, practice fields, academic buildings and parking. — Richmond.com
