Arizona State University this week announced that all required approvals have been received in order for its new multi-purpose arena to begin construction. The 5,000-seat arena, which will be managed by Oak View Group, will be the home for the school’s men’s ice hockey, wrestling and women’s gymnastics programs, but also host university and community events. Amenities include 8,000 square feet for a state-of-the-art locker room, weight room, lounge and coaches’ offices on the facility’s north side. The neighborhood of Oak Cliff in Dallas recently celebrated the opening of a state-of-the-art recreation center. The $20 million Singing Hills facility, designed by Perkins and Will, includes fitness equipment, exercise rooms, a recording studio, a computer and technology room, a commercial kitchen, meeting spaces and a gymnasium. — DallasNews.com

The Richmond City Council unanimously approved plans that officials believe represents a step toward a new ballpark and Athletics Village for Virginia Commonwealth University. The Richmond 300 plan includes the city’s plan for development and growth leading up to its 300th birthday in 2037 includes roughly 458 acres of underdeveloped land. Included in that parcel is The Diamond — an outdated 1985 ballpark that is set to be replaced and shared by VCU and the minor league Richmond Flying Squirrels — and land that would be designated for the proposed Athletics Village.
