MOSCOW — University of Idaho athletic director Rob Spear has been put on administrative leave for 60 days while the schools reviews the process that resulted in the mishandling of sexual assault complaints in 2012 and 2013, the school announced in a news release Tuesday morning.

The school will also look into what has been done since that time, and what should be done in the future, the news release said.

In Spear's absence, Pete Isakson, associate athletic director, will serve as acting athletic director for day-to-day operations, and Brian Foisy, vice president for finance and administration, will work with the athletics business office to manage the finance functions of the department, the news release said.

"This is a challenging day," UI President Chuck Staben said in the news release. "But understanding how we've handled situations in the past and how we can improve is essential. We have a responsibility to provide our students, and our student-athletes, with the best college experience and the most support possible. We are committed to meeting these expectations."

The sexual assault complaints where brought by Vandal athletes Mairin Jameson and Maggie Miller against UI football player Jahrie Level in April of 2013. Jameson accused Level of sexual assault, verbal harassment and unwanted physical contact while Miller accused him of verbal harassment.

The allegations came to light when Jameson wrote about the incidents on an online blog earlier this year, and were later detailed in a lengthy story by the Idaho Statesman in early March. Spear admitted that he didn't notify the dean of students office about the allegations at the time because he incorrectly believed off-campus incidents weren't covered by Title IX guidelines.
