GREENSBORO - The N.C. High School Athletic Association has ruled that Page must forfeit three football victories and pay a $250 fine because two academically ineligible players participated in those games.

The ruling, which Guilford County Schools athletics director Leigh Hebbard confirmed Thursday in an email, had been expected since GCS officials reported the eligibility infractions to the state association in early September. The forfeited victories - vs. Davie County on Aug. 17, Northern Guilford on Aug. 24 and Dudley on Aug. 31 - leave the Pirates with a 2-5 record heading into their Metro 4-A Conference opener Oct. 12 against Northwest Guilford.

Page is off this week.

Hebbard also wrote that the NCHSAA has ruled that Smith's boys soccer team must forfeit matches in which an ineligible player participated and fined the school $250. The student was ineligible for athletics because his participation violated the association's rule that limits students to eight semesters of competition.

Hebbard said school officials were still trying to determine how many of the Golden Eagles' matches the player was in uniform for and would have to be forfeited. Smith was 4-6-1 at the time the violations were reported, with two wins over Eastern Guilford and one each over Dudley and Western Guilford and a tie with Northeast Guilford.
