A Virginia Union University football player died Sunday after collapsing on the field during practice.
Freshman Quandarius Wilburn, 19, collapsed during a conditioning drill. He was taken to Virginia Commonwealth University medical center, where he died.
Cause of death has not yet been released.
“This is a heartbreaking loss for our campus community,” VUU president Dr. Hakim Lucas told the Richmond NBC affiliate. “I want to personally encourage each of you to keep Mr. Wilburn’s family in your prayers, as well as the VUU athletics department."
According to the letter, the football team ate breakfast, attended church and ate lunch before practice Sunday.
Wilburn’s death comes after Joshua Ivory, 15, collapsed two weeks ago on the first of practice at Southwest High School in Macon, Georgia, and later died. An autopsy was done on Ivory but did not reveal a cause of death.
