Police are looking for a suspect who shot five people at a Washington, D.C., recreation center on Monday.
According to The Washington Post, the shooting took place near the entrance of the Barry Farm Recreation Center’s indoor pool in Southeast D.C.
“I have to be concerned about the babies that were inside,” Rhonda Edwards-Hines, a member of the Advisory Neighborhood Commission, told the Post. “They could have been out here.”

The victims included four men and a boy. Three of the men and the boy sustained injuries that were not life threatening. One of the men remains in critical condition. All five victims were conscious when police arrived.
Police released a picture of a silver Nissan leaving the scene.

The area around the center is being redeveloped, with a number of longtime tenants in the area challenging the plans in court. There are a number of vacant and boarded-up houses in the area, as well as a lot of construction debris where homes have been demolished.
“There needs to be more security,” Edwards-Hines said. “You don’t know what’s going on inside those vacant units.”
