The Los Angeles Dodgers will extend the safety netting at Dodger Stadium after yet another fan on Sunday suffered a head injury due to a foul ball.
The Dodgers had already extended the netting to the far ends of the dugouts, and according to the Orange County Register, the team now intends to extend them even further.
“We have been talking for some time with different providers and looking at different options,” Kasten said Monday. “Surely we will be expanding netting. I don’t know yet the final configuration. Obviously, there are some different choices to be made and different products which each come with their own set of challenges.”
While Kasten couldn’t speak to exact timing on the project, he seemed to think the extensions would be completed before the end of the season.
The Dodgers’ decision follows on the Chicago White Sox recent announcement that they will extend the netting out to each foul pole. The Washington Nationals announced last week that they will make a similar change at Nationals Park.
A woman was killed after being struck in the head with a foul ball at Dodger Stadium last August. Linda Goldbloom, 79, died on Aug. 29 from an "acute intracranial hemorrhage" and a "history of blunt force trauma," according to a summary of the coroner's report. The manner of death was listed as an accident.
