Big 12 football is officially underway and at least one of the teams in the conference has been battling COVID-19 since mid-summer.

Texas Tech reports that 75 football players have tested positive for COVID-19 since June, accounting for 116 total positive cases among Texas Tech student-athletes.

According to EverythingLubbock.com, 69 of those players who tested positive for the virus have recovered, while six cases remain active. Five football staff members tested positive and have recovered.

As of Monday, Texas Tech had 123 players on its active roster.

Texas Tech was missing several players for its opener Saturday against Houston Baptist, although the school did not confirm that any absences were due to positive COVID-19 tests.
