A junior hockey player in Russia died days after a puck struck him in the head.
According to The Associated Press, Dynamo St. Petersburg’s Timur Faizutdinov was hit by the puck during a Junior Hockey League playoff game Friday against Loko Yaroslavl.
The 19-year-old was treated by the team doctor then taken to a hospital in Yaroslavl, where he died Tuesday.
The Junior Hockey League said Faizutdinov died Tuesday after “doctors fought for Timur’s life over the course of three days.”
Dynamo said upcoming games and competitions, including the Kontinental Hockey League, will begin with a minute’s silence for Faizutdinov.
