Watch: Mitigating Athlete Heat-Related Illness

Andy Berg Headshot

Every year student athletes die from heat-related injuries. The Jordan McNair Foundation wants to educate parents, students and coaches so that any deaths are prevented. The Jordan McNair Foundation was established in June 2018 by Tonya Wilson & Martin “Marty” McNair following the death of their son Jordan Martin McNair, an offensive lineman for the University of Maryland.

Jordan’s untimely death was the result of a heatstroke he suffered during an organized offseason team workout. During this interview Marty NcNair and Dr. Rod Walters stress the importance of recognizing heat related problems, how to quickly treat any problems, and the equipment needed on the field in the event that a student athlete is overcome by a heat-related injury.
