
A high school student-athlete died Thursday after suffering a medical emergency and collapsing during a varsity flag football game at her school.
According to the USA TODAY, the Clark County coroner identified the girl as Ashari Hughes, 16. The cause of death is still under investigation.
Desert Oasis High School principal Ian Salzman said in an email that staff immediately administered CPR after Hughes collapsed until paramedics arrived.
Las Vegas schools superintendent Jesus Jara said the district is grieving.
“The loss of this young life deeply saddens us,” Jara said. “When a tragedy occurs, it affects not only that school but the entire Clark County School District family.”
