Two North Carolina teenagers have been charged with a crime after police say they brought guns to a high school football game.
According to a WXII 12, police responded to a disorder at Dudley High School's Football Jamboree Friday around 8:30. The caller said a group of males and females were involved in a fight.
The incident occurred during a scrimmage, as Dudley hosted four schools at the Jamboree.
Police said the athletic director reported that two juveniles were carrying handguns in the parking lot. Police saw the juveniles bend down beside the car, and eventually detained them while they searched the car. They found two handguns underneath the car.
The juveniles were charged and released to their parents.
Late Monday, the district issued a statement that reads in-part:
"The safety of our students, staff and visitors is our top priority, and disruptions that threaten their safety will not be tolerated. In 2023-2024, the district will continue to require clear bags at athletic events and touchless scanners will be used for weapon detection prior to spectators entering the stadium. The district continues to explore additional safety measures."
