Four off-duty first responders last week took quick action and managed to save a man's life at a Toms River, NJ, LA Fitness location.

According to Patch.com, police were dispatched around 4 p.m. on Aug. 13 to the LA Fitness location on Hooper Avenue for a reported medical emergency with CPR in progress.

When police arrived they found Dylan Tortorelli and Josh Menack, two off-duty EMTs who happened to be working out at the time, already performing CPR on a man who had suffered cardiac arrest while exercising. Off-duty Toms River police officers, Alex Lew and Charlie Grainger, also happened to be at the gym and were using an automated external defibrillator on the man.

"Moments later, the patient awakened, regaining consciousness and began to breathe on his own," police said.

The man was transferred to the hospital and has since been sent home.

"We'd like to commend [the off-duty first responder], and everyone who jumped into action and rendered aid to help save a stranger's life," Toms River police said.
