An adult and a juvenile were injured by a gunman who walked into a west-side Indianapolis gym and fired randomly, causing “mass chaos” as the gym evacuated.

As reported by Fox affiliate WXIN, officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were called around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday to the intersection of W. 38th Street and Shore Drive, initially on reports of an active shooter.

Upon arrival, IMPD said officers found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds in the 6900 block of W. 38th Street. Police confirmed both victims, described as an adult and a juvenile, were taken to separate hospitals in stable condition.

IMPD officer Shane Foley confirmed that the “business involved,” a VASA Fitness gym, was cleared as officers investigated the shooting, adding that there is “no ongoing threat.”

On scene, IMPD captain Mark McCardia said a suspect walked in the gym’s front door and started firing shots. However, police didn’t give any description or further information on the suspect, WXIN's Joe Schroeder reported.

McCardia described a “mass chaos” at the VASA Fitness as gym-goers evacuated the business. The IMPD captain speculated that possibly “hundreds” of people were inside at the time. “I can only guess it was packed,” he said, as reported by WXIN.
