An investigation is underway after video surfaced online this week of spectators at a high school volleyball match in Texas spitting on and making sexual remarks about the visiting players on the court.

A live stream of the Pleasant Grove Lady Hawks hosting the North Lamar Pantherettes caught the fans' behavior on video. Portions of the game showing the fans' behavior were later posted to social media.

“Is this really how you treat your guest athletes in your gym, Pleasant Grove? Your resource officers didn’t mind," wrote NLISD board member Lauren Woodard along with a posting of the video on social media. "Your Athletic Director didn’t answer during the game or this morning when I called. I haven’t received a call back hours later either.”

Many in the community are now calling on the University Interscholastic League (UIL), Arkansas Activities Association and Pleasant Grove ISD to investigate.

In a statement released Wednesday night, Pleasant Grove communications director Haley Turner said the district is investigating the claims.

"Our commitment is to foster an environment of respect and sportsmanship, and we are addressing this matter with those involved to uphold the positive standards of our school community," Turner said.

Turner referred to the incident during the game as an "isolated incident with just a few students."

"We are addressing it directly with those students that were involved," Turner said.
