A's Discover Limitations of Minor League Stadium After On-Field Injury

The Major League Baseball team formerly known as the Oakland Athletics encountered its first obstacle regarding the Triple-A baseball stadium that the team currently calls home on its way to a permanent facility in Las Vegas in 2028.

While millions were spent to upgrade Sutter Home Park in Sacramento, Calif., the ballpark still isn't quite up to MLB standards. For instance, the home and away clubhouses are out beyond the centerfield fence, presenting a problem when injury happens on the field, as was evident Saturday when the A's took on the New York Mets.

Mets outfielder Jose Siri fouled a pitch off his right knee in the second inning and fell to the ground, eventually limping over to the dugout and handing the at-bat over to teammate Tyrone Taylor.

Eventually trainers decided Siri's knee needed to be x-rayed, but a cart was needed to transport him from the dugout to the clubhouse.

Unfortunately, two carts were needed, because the first one broke down, and several park employees had to push the cart through the gate in centerfield, delaying the bottom of the second inning by several minutes.

The A's are slated to play at the 14,000-seat Sutter Home Park for at least three years.
