Exercising an "abundance of caution," Luling (Texas) High School canceled its game against Burbank High School from San Antonio Thursday after becoming aware of a threatening social media post.

As reported by Austin NBC affiliate KXAN, Luling ISD superintendent Erin Warren said in a Facebook post at 5:44 p.m. Thursday that a social media post originating on a Burbank High School account “appears to be threatening toward our football game this evening.”

“Out of an abundance of caution and for the safety of our students, staff and families, the game has been canceled,” the post said, according to KXAN. “Our priority is to provide a safe and positive environment for our students and staff. We recognize that anxiety around social media threats can create disruptions on our campuses and our community, and we want you to know that we are vigilant in keeping our campuses safe.”

Warren said law enforcement from both cities is “actively investigating the threat.”
