A Boiling Spring (S.C.) Middle School basketball coach was arrested on Thursday evening after he caused a public disturbance during a basketball game at Carver Middle School.

According to WSPA, Nicholas Jerel Brannon was verbally aggressive and yelling at student-athletes and spectators.

A school resource officer and the principal asked Brannon to leave the gym because of his behavior, but Brannon refused. An attempt was made to escort him out of the gymnasium, but Brannon re-entered and continued to be verbally aggressive toward staff and the crowd. Brannon was finally detained by police.

He was transported to the Spartanburg County Detention Center and charged with trespassing, public disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

Spartanburg County School District Two confirmed that Brannon has been placed on administrative leave following the incident, and the school district will be conducting an internal investigation.

“The Spartanburg Police Department remains committed to ensuring the safety of students, staff, and visitors at all school-related events,” Spartanburg police stated. “We appreciate the cooperation of Carver Middle School administration and the officers involved in resolving the situation safely.”
