North Charleston police responded to a stabbing Thursday during a junior varsity football game at Fort Dorchester High School, according to a report.
Police said they witnessed several people screaming and running toward the front entrance.
Officers got closer to the scene and spotted two men trying to get to a third man to fight, but officers kept the parties apart, the report said.
Police then noticed a pocket knife in one of the men's hands and ordered him several times to drop the weapon before he complied, according to the report.
A victim told police that he and the man with the knife got into a fight and a second man and woman assaulted him before the armed man started stabbing him.
Police said they located multiple stab wounds on the victim including on his back and abdomen.
Police said they later learned the suspect's ex-wife is now married to the victim.
Rodney Jemar Washington, 40, has been charged with attempted murder.
EMS treated the victim on scene.
