NORTHBORO — Authorities say a Connecticut woman was drunk on Monday when her SUV collided with a school bus full of high school baseball players.

Kimberly Tirado, 34, of Niantic, skipped her Westboro District Court arraignment on Tuesday, and the court issued a warrant for her arrest.

On Monday at 2:47 p.m., police responded to a crash involving a school bus near 200 Church St., Lt. Joseph G. Galvin said on Tuesday.

Police said a Mitsubishi Outlander had collided with a school bus carrying Westboro High School baseball players to a game in Worcester. None of the 20 students on the bus was injured. Neither were either of the drivers, Galvin said.

"The bus driver said he was traveling north on Church Street while the Outlander was traveling south," said Galvin. "The Outlander crossed the double yellow line and struck the rear of the bus."

Galvin said the bus was slightly damaged but continued on to the game. Westboro lost, 8-7, to St. Peter Marian.

"In conversation with the driver, she indicated she was distracted," said Galvin. "However, she showed clear signs of intoxication."

Tirado failed field sobriety tests. Officers also found a partly filled bottle of vodka in her SUV, the lieutenant said. She refused to take a breath analysis test, which means her license is automatically suspended for 180 days. Police charged Tirado with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving to endanger and possession of an open container of liquor while driving, as well as a marked-lanes violation.

Tirado was scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday after she was released on personal recognizance after her arrest, but failed to appear.
