The athletic field at Syosset-Woodbury Community Park will get an overhaul this summer.
On April 10, the town board unanimously approved accepting the $765,400 bid from Amityville-based The LandTek Group Inc. to replace the synthetic turf of the multipurpose field, which can be used for football, soccer and lacrosse. The bid was the lowest responsive bid of the three received, Public Works Commissioner Richard Lenz said in a memo. The board also approved a $38,270 encumbrance for potential cost increases.
The current synthetic field, which was installed in 2006, "has significant wear to the fibers," town spokesman Brian Nevin wrote in an email. Construction will begin June 25 and end before Labor Day at the park, which is at 7800 Jericho Tpke. in Woodbury, he added.
