Basin Recreation Fieldhouse Expansion

Park City, UT
Construction Cost: $6,550,000.00
Area / Square Feet: 31,000
Occupancy Date: May 2017

The project goal was to provide an expansion in recreational services to the existing field house facility. The project included expanded cardio space,

gathering areas, party rooms, offices, a conference room, an outdoor pool and hot tub, and associated bathroom and storage

areas.

The project needed to tie into the existing entrance and control area and support the existing outdoor splash pad. The site also needed to maintain a major pedestrian and bicycle pathway corridor — as well as respect the natural wetlands beyond the trail — to the east. Along with these functional

requirements, the gymnasium needed to front the street along the south and provide natural lighting into the gymnasium without causing glare issues.

Gymnasium walls were lifted approximately three feet from the floor to allow for impact-resistant, triple-glazed windows at floor level. Natural light from the south bounces off the floor and illuminates the space with a diffuse light. When the gymnasium is in use, the exterior becomes animated with the motion of the activity within.
