The Health and Recreation Complex integrates the functions of student recreation, swim-team practice, Student Health Services and Counseling Services into one exciting center.

The elevations relate to an adjacent historic gymnasium and other campus buildings through the use of brick and limestone. Cutting into a hillside lowers the building to keep it from competing with the size of the gym. Clerestory windows and metal overhangs visually separate the roof and reduce the effective height of the building. A strong, cantilevered roof on the south points to the main campus.

The building interior creates excitement by providing views into the fitness spaces, gym and pool. Beyond the building?s free zone, the interior opens up to three stories of fitness spaces, the gym below, the track above and the woods beyond, creating a sense of openness.

Fitness spaces are on three levels: a lower level dedicated to free weights, an entry level of cardio and selectorized equipment and an upper-level cardio balcony. Two multipurpose rooms provide space for aerobics and other activities. One room has a traditional wood floor, while the other utilizes a synthetic floor and a connection to the pool to allow the room to also serve as a wet classroom or party room.
