Because of the site’s limited size, the Student Recreation and Wellness Center at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, had nowhere to go but up. The resulting four stories incorporate activity spaces on every level — including a four-court gymnasium with a suspended jogging track offering views of the Las Vegas Strip, two multipurpose activity courts, a group cycling room, a fitness mezzanine, racquetball courts, a climbing wall, indoor competition and leisure pools, a whirlpool and wet classroom, an outdoor pool and spa, a spacious lobby, a juice bar and coffee bistro, a convenience store, indoor and outdoor dining, and meeting rooms and offices.

A key component of the facility is the Wellness Center, which houses student health, counseling and psychological services. Accessible from the lobby, it is secured separately from the rest of the building.

The exterior design shares textures and materials from more recent UNLV campus buildings. The goal was to create an environment that would encourage students to be physically, emotionally and mentally fit.
