Green Bay, WI
Construction Cost: $28.5 million
Area / Square Feet: 175,000
Occupancy Date: October 2007

The new Kress Events Center is an addition and renovation to the west side of an aging recreation center. Sited in the southeast section of the campus’ athletics quadrant, it serves as a campus gateway.

A new recreation component adds ample fitness space with a suspended running track, group exercise areas and another basketball court, in addition to the existing basketball courts and a pool. A new women’s basketball and volleyball arena also was constructed, and the university’s entire athletics program is housed in this complex. A spacious, well-lit concourse unites the recreation and athletics components into one complete facility.

The primary exterior materials include light- and dark-banded buff-colored brick, curtainwalls, and patina-colored roofs and canopies. The areas immediately adjacent to the entryways boast landscaped public plazas that include native grasses and shrubs. The interior utilizes stained-concrete fl oor patterns, exposed ceilings and clerestories. Much of the casework is finished in a deep, rich cherry wood stain.
