In response to growing student enrollment and demand for recreation, the new 151,000-square-foot student recreation center offers a 6,150-square-foot recreation pool, four multipurpose courts, group fitness studios, a cycling studio, an elevated running/walking track, and space for cardiovascular and weight training. Outdoor amenities include a 4,000-square-foot outdoor pool and three outdoor terraces with views of the campus, as well as basketball, pickleball and sand volleyball courts.
With more than 24,000 square feet total of aquatic space, both UREC pools are filled with unique features to facilitate flexibility and maximum use among the student population. The program reflects the desire to engage students with aquatic exercise and recreation while also providing areas within each pool that encourage social activity. Multiple moving water areas within the indoor pool allow for recreation or exercise as a dynamic part of the pool programming. Lap lanes allow for traditional fitness and double as an area for teaching group aquatic exercise classes with a maximum depth of 5 feet.
