COMMUNITY FIRST
In November 2013, voters passed initiative 2K, which funded five projects in five years for Commerce City. The first recreational project under that initiative was the long-awaited outdoor pool facility at Pioneer Park. Without missing a beat, the city in early 2014 hired OLC to move forward with plans for a large-scale themed waterpark to be opened in summer 2015. Given that this would be Commerce City's first new aquatic facility in 35 years, the community was integral to the project's planning and design.

PAIR OF DICE
Paradice Island was a community-driven project, and its theme was chosen based on the desire to have a waterpark where visitors could have an entertaining experience. The community wanted classic board games, video games and activities to be the focus of the center. The "Pair of Dice" theme was the driving force for the overall design of Paradice Island and influenced the shape of the pools, as well as the inclusion of a grassy area, concessions stands and shade structures.
