Goodall Pool at Virginia Military Institute

Lexington, Va.
Construction Cost: $44 million
Area / Square Feet: 58,000
Occupancy Date: January 2023

The Virginia Military Institute is a private military college in Lexington. It was founded in 1839 and is the oldest state-supported military college in the United States.

In January 2023, the VMI opened the Goodlall Pool aquatic complex. The new facility was built to meet the needs of the growing VMI Corps of Cadets (which now includes women), as well as the increasing demand for water-based activities and programs at VMI. The Goodall Pool will be used by the intercollegiate swimming, diving and water polo teams and for hosting competitions. It will also be used for physical therapy, swimming qualifications for military schools such as the U.S. Army Rangers and Navy Special Operations, faculty and staff wellness programs, and SCUBA training.

The new 58,000-square-foot aquatic center is a valuable addition to the VMI campus. It will provide a place for students to train and compete, and it will also be a great resource for the entire collegiate community.
