Loma Verde Aquatic Center

Chula Vista, California
Construction Cost: $20 million
Area / Square Feet: 47,175
Occupancy Date: December 2023

In September 2021, the City of Chula Vista began a transformative journey by demolishing its 40-year-old community center to create an innovative recreation and aquatics center. Now one of the busiest recreational hubs in Chula Vista, the center welcomes approximately 2,000 visitors annually. The three-phase construction project resulted in a new 20,000-square-foot recreation center featuring a multipurpose gymnasium, hard courts, restrooms, staff offices, and rooms for crafts, fitness and games. The previous pool was replaced with a 47,175-square-foot aquatics area, including a 50-meter competition pool, an instructional pool, a splash pad and a classroom/party room. The competition pool includes a 10-lane, 50-meter area; a 22-lane, 25-yard area; a championship water polo course; two 1-meter springboards and a stair entry. The instructional pool has a 5-lane, 25-yard space with a stair entry, and the splash pad, located within a safety fence, spans 620 square feet for water play. The classroom/party room features large overhead doors for flexible indoor-outdoor use.
