The Sherwood Community Centre strategically wraps programming elements around a central social hub, allowing for a variety of uses — both programmed and informal — to unfold within this highly flexible and adaptable facility. In addition to an aquatics center, the project includes a branch library, a twin-pad arena, a fitness studio and multipurpose community rooms.

The aquatics center features universal changerooms with family friendly lockers and cubicles. Fully accessible with a high-degree of openness and visibility, the aquatic center incorporates enhanced safety practices, developed in alignment with the Lifesaving Society’s Public Aquatic Facility Safety Standards — an authority in aquatic standards and safety. The eramosa limestone panel walls and white oak ceilings relate directly to the facility’s unique location at the foot of the Niagara Escarpment. Continuous skylight slots at the edge of the lobby and natatorium allow light to play onto the stone and tile wall surfaces.

Visible from the street and primary public corridor, the prominently located aquatic center highlights ongoing internal activities while enticing users to engage with the programming available to them within the Sherwood Community Centre.
