Jefferson Community Center/Aquatics Center

Cape Girardeau, Mo.
Construction Cost: $11 million
Area / Square Feet: Withheld
Occupancy Date: April 2023

Following the completion of a 2019 feasibility study, the Cape Girardeau Public School District and the City of Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department collaborated in the development of the new Jefferson Community Center, situated on the Jefferson School campus. The collaborative project, which took more than 18 months to complete, was aimed at providing a facility that caters to the needs of students, staff and the community.

The aquatic center offers a diverse range of amenities and programs to meet the varied interests of its patrons. The centerpiece of the facility is an impressive 3,575-square-foot indoor leisure pool boasting a capacity of 85,000 gallons. The pool features three 25-yard lap lanes for exercise enthusiasts and competitive swimmers.

Additionally, the center includes an enclosed slide that extends outside the building before bringing riders back indoors, adding an element of excitement to the facility. There is also a dedicated children’s play area with zero-depth entry, sprinkle play features and a slide that ensures a safe and enjoyable experience for young visitors.
