Sunman-Dearborn Community Schools - East Central High School Natatorium

St. Leon, Ind.
Construction Cost: $18 million
Area / Square Feet: 28,000
Occupancy Date: October 2022

The new East Central High School natatorium was designed to host regional swimming and diving competitions, as well as community recreation. The natatorium features a unique “tech wave” design within the exterior form that is repeated in plan/patterning within the interior. The new pool is an eight-lane stretch 25-yard pool, with an 8-foot-wide bulkhead between swimming and diving. Seating for 500 on retractable bleachers is stacked on a mezzanine over four locker rooms, coaches’ offices and a hospitality suite.

Interior finishes include wood laminated roof decking highlighted by suspended indirect lighting and school-branded glass and porcelain tile. The spectator experience is enhanced through a generously sized lobby with built-in wood benches and the floating monumental stair to the mezzanine. The natatorium will be used by middle school and high school students, as well as the community.
