Serving 11 high schools, the Northside Sports Gym provides a premier environment for competitive boys’ and girls’ basketball and volleyball. The arena seating and center-hung digital video display make the space a multipurpose venue, easily accommodating events such as mid-year graduations, art fests, career expos, school fairs, awards ceremonies and coaching association conferences and training programs.

This facility consists of a single collegiate court for basketball and volleyball with 2,500 individual spectator seats and complements the other athletics facilities in the Farris Athletic Complex. The Sports Gym was positioned to allow premier exterior views to the Plaza of Champions between the arena and stadium, and designed to provide interior views from gym offices into the gym court. Careful planning for sound reinforcement and acoustic design benefits multipurpose and audiovisual rooms, conference and training rooms, two sets of home/visitor team spaces, facilities for game officials, public restrooms, concessions sales and support spaces, and administrative offices for coaches and athletic staff including customized storage spaces. Coaches offices feature windows and outdoor deck space with fantastic views overlooking the district’s football stadium.

Creating a great game-day experience for student-athletes, coaches, parents and fans was a primary goal. This included careful planning for parking, easy accessibility and wayfinding systems.
