The Southern Recreation Center is situated on a 63-acre site adjacent to the original Palm Coast Tennis Center. The new facility features a 12,000-square-foot clubhouse that seamlessly blends indoor and outdoor spaces, an expansive social lobby, an outdoor seating area overlooking tennis and pickleball courts, locker rooms, a fully equipped kitchen and bar, versatile community multipurpose rooms, viewing balconies, and administrative and support facilities.
In addition to the clubhouse, 12 SportsMaster Pro Cushion pickleball courts were constructed, half of which are covered by a pre-engineered metal building (PEMB) structure. Ten Har-Tru clay courts with professional lighting for night play also were constructed. The Southern Recreation Center connects to the Trail Head facility and acts as a multifunction recreation hub for the southern part of the city.
Initially targeting LEED Silver certification, the team maximized sustainable elements within the new state-of-the-art facility and achieved LEED Gold. Sustainable features include hundreds of solar panels atop the pickleball courts’ PEMB roof that will provide over $500,000 in power savings over the next 25 years. Designed with highly efficient mechanical and lighting systems, the building significantly reduces energy demand, enabling solar panels to supply up to 70% of the facility’s energy needs. As one of the most modern pieces of architecture in the city, this landmark building is truly something that all members of the community will enjoy for decades to come.
