The Audley Recreation Centre & Park Complex (ARC), part of a 100-acre sport, recreation and wellness program, is configured with flow-through lobbies between major program areas. A north/south concourse, designed as a public art gallery, connects all program areas within the recreation center.

Sustainability initiatives include a 61 percent energy-use reduction over the Model National Energy Code for Buildings (MNECB), equating to carbon dioxide reduction of approximately 467 tons every year. Solar thermal collector arrays were incorporated into three of the building’s wall sections and offset approximately 156,100 kilowatts of energy every year.

Throughout project design and construction, material and product choices were compatible with resource protection and improved indoor air quality, including 15 percent recycled content, sourcing 21 percent of materials locally, using more than 50 percent FSC-certified wood and all low-emitting products. The LEED Gold-certified ARC provides a unique educational experience through the use of a lobby-based Sustainability Public Interface — an intuitive touch-enabled display that provides a gateway for interaction with the sustainability features of the facility.
