Laramie County Community College’s Blue Federal Credit Union Recreation & Athletics Complex has undergone a major renovation that transformed the RAC for LCCC students, student-athletes and employees. The original facility, built in 1971, is one of the oldest buildings on campus. For the past half-century, it had seen only minor improvements and structural updates. A new state-of-the-art athletic facility provides the students, staff and athletes with competition, recreation and administration spaces that offer endless benefits to the college.
At the front entry, a donor wall is celebrated with vibrant school colors. In the lobby, a concrete tee structure was opened up to provide views of the café and fitness area, and entrances to the new competition gymnasium. The gym is now located in the previous Multipurpose Room, which has the ceiling height to align with National Junior College Athletic Association requirements. Seating was expanded to accommodate 1,100 spectators at athletic competitions and community events. A two-story addition provides a new champion’s lounge overlooking the tournament gym with the LCCC Golden Eagle at center court, and includes office spaces, student-athlete locker rooms, athletic training facilities, and storage. The new fitness area houses free weights, as well as cardio, selectorized and functional training equipment.
The $31 million project was supported financially by the Legislature, which provided $14.5 million in capital construction funds, as well as Blue Federal Credit Union and the college.
