The Teton County/Jackson Community Recreation Center expansion builds on a long-standing vision to provide inclusive, year-round recreation that reflects the adventurous spirit of Jackson, Wyo. Located in the heart of a mountain community known for climbing, skiing and outdoor exploration, the expanded facility brings a bold new energy to public recreation through spaces that are as inspiring as the surrounding landscape.
The project was shaped through close collaboration with Teton County, the Town of Jackson, recreation staff and community stakeholders. At its core is a signature indoor climbing gym, expressed architecturally through dramatic forms, rich textures and a sculptural steel exterior that echoes the region’s wind-carved canyons. This bold identity flows into the interior, where a canyon-inspired ceiling motif defines the main lobby and gathering space.
The expansion adds a full-service fitness and wellness center, two additional gymnasium courts, an elevated running track, flexible community rooms, private fitness studios and an outdoor splashpad. Aquatics enhancements improve access and capacity, while new locker rooms and childcare facilities promote comfort, safety and family participation.
Honored with a 2024 ENR Mountain States Award, the project is a testament to the power of community-driven design. It transforms a beloved facility into a modern, multigenerational destination — one that celebrates health, play and the unique character of Jackson Hole.
