Iowa Preps $5.8M Renovation of Duane Banks Field
Iowa baseball's 50-year-old Duane Banks Field is ready for another round of renovations.
The Hawkeyes' home field in Iowa City will undergo a second, $5.8 million round of improvements that will include a new press box and additional seating. The Iowa Board of Regents approved the renovation plans on Thursday, June 12.
The university built a new clubhouse in 2024 for more than $5 million as part of the project's first phase. Duane Banks Field sits between Kinnick Stadium and Carver-Hawkeye Arena on the UI campus's west side.
The all-turf, 3,000-seat stadium was named after Iowa's winningest coach in 2001. Banks coached the Hawkeyes for nearly 30 years, from 1970-1997.
Singapore Unveils Aquatics Center Built for 2025 World Aquatics Championships
The 2025 World Championships officially have a pool with the new World Aquatics Championships Arena (WCH Arena) being unveiled yesterday in Singapore at the Singapore Spots Hub.
The facility will be home to a few large aquatics events in the coming months, and the World Championships will not be the first event hosted in the new pool. Later this week, the Southeast Asian Age Group Championships will christen the facility from June 20th-27th.
Mark Chay, the co-chair of the Singapore 2025 organizing committee said “Young aquatics athletes from Southeast Asia will inaugurate the WCH Arena, followed by the professional athletes competing in the World Aquatics Championships and our Masters athletes participating in the World Aquatics Masters Championships.
Plans Revealed for Workington Soccer and Rugby Stadium
New plans have been revealed for a stadium which would house a town's football and rugby teams.
If approved, Cumberland Sports Village in Cumbria will have capacity for 3,700 Workington AFC and Workington Town RLFC fans - 2,700 seated and 1,000 standing.
Last year Cumberland Council agreed last year to spend £235,000 on designing the new stadium.
Cumberland Sports Village spokesman Dave Bowden said the new ground had the potential to "create lasting benefits for Workington AFC, Workington Town RLFC and the whole community."
