Las Cruces Opens Outdoor Gym

Las Cruces, N.M., officially opened a new amenity for its community this week — the Las Cruces Fitness Court.

The facility is essentially an outdoor gym, and includes bodyweight circuit training equipment for exercises such as box jumps and push-ups. City officials supported the idea of a free fitness space to give low-income residents a place to work out.

The Las Cruces Sun News reports that the public’s reception of the gym has been mixed: some support the idea, while others are concerned about vandalism and the metal construction being a heat-conducting hazard during hot summers.

The $110,000 project took about three months to build.
